A Story about a child who touched my heart

The child that touched my life...
This is a child that I will call Tia.
Tia was a student of mine when I taught at Head Start, she came to my classroom at age 3 with a lot of social emotional and developmental delays. she was born with alcohol fetal syndrome which made her impulsive and violent at times.

When I left Head Start to pursue my dreams of having my own FCC. (family childcare), Tia went on to preschool part day, the rest of her time was spent at daycare.

Because of her behaviors she'd been kicked out of several day cares with no where to turn. A friend of mine saw her mom while out shopping and ask how was Tia doing. Mom broke down and began to cry, she express she did not know what else to do because she needed to work. To make a long story short, she found me and I took Tia in and worked with her on a daily basis, I also worked with mother and her kindergarten teacher. Her mom was so please that she wrote a letter expressing her gratitude and said because of me her daughter's behavior has gone down 100%.

I said thank you, I am no miracle just a teacher who loves what she does.

    1. And there it is Kathy, in a nut shell. I can't tell you how many times I have cried asking God I'm I truly making a difference in these children' lives? then I look at them when they came to me and when they left, and the answer was YES!
      Thanks Kathy

  2. First love that you work or have worked for Head Start. Head Start is my first love. I worked many years with both EHS and HS and yes it never gives up on a child and often a families last resource. I am so happy that you blessed that little one with your classroom. I am positive that this mother will always be grateful to you. This morning I was in a training on FAS and commend you for your dedication!

  4. Patricia,

That is what separates real teachers from those that want to just earn a paycheck. I feel this because a teacher has patience and dedication, all the other daycares put her out because they did not have those qualities. Good job!
